This series commemorates space junk that fell to Earth off various satellites during the past few weeks. Extreme measures were exhausted to FTF these marvelous historic pieces for your enjoyment before muggles got to them, so please treat them with awe and respect. All space junk pieces have been scrutinised for outer space viruses, bacteria, other contaminants, ionisized Psychlodinian dust and ear worm eggs. Those that showed any threat were incinerated for your safety, except for the SPUTNIK piece.... It is Russian. It does not want to melt...

EXPLORER 1
Explorer 1 was launched on 31 January 1958. It was the first satellite to be launched by the United States. The U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Agency used a Jupiter C rocket as the delivery vehicle, developed under the direction of Dr. Wernher von Braun and was designed, built and operated by JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory)
Explorer 1 revolved around Earth in a looping orbit that took it as close as 354 kilometers to Earth and as far as 2,515 kilometers. It made one orbit every 114.8 minutes, or a total of 12.54 orbits per day. The satellite itself was 203 centimeters long and 15.9 centimeters in diameter and weighed 14 Kg. Explorer 1 made its final transmission on May 23, 1958. It entered Earth's atmosphere and burned up on March 31, 1970, after more than 58,000 orbits
