Following the hurricane flooding at the beginning of October this year, the members of PAGA (Pittsburgh Area Geocaching Association) decided to help our fellow cachers in South Carolina by taking donations of cache supplies to help our southern friends replace their caches and even place some new ones. Knowing the state that the Lynches River was in, we thought, coming out and physically lending our hands to help out this awesome park while handing out caching supplies, would make the project complete.
Please join us in the park on Sunday, December 27th, 2015 from noon until dark, so let us say we will start packing up around 4:30 to be out of the park by 5.
Pittsburgh Area Geocaching Association was happy to collect lots of containers, logbooks/logs, pens, swag, ziplocks and other supplies to help get your flooded caches back out. During times of natural happenings, caches get destroyed and go missing and sometimes you just don't have the time, energy or funds available to check and fix your caches because there are too many other real world things to worry about. We thought this would be a great way to help you out, so we are inviting cachers from all affected areas of the state to come out and pick up some caches to distribute to those that need them. We hoped to be able to have multiple events (one in Florence, one in the Charleston area and one in the Columbia area), but planning events over the holidays is sometime hard. We still might be able to have smaller events in those other places, but we wanted one bigger, all day event where we could do more and we think this is the perfect place.
BRING: Gloves and anything you think might be helpful in the cleanup process.
WHEN AND WHERE: We will be meeting at the shelters by the Splash Pad. We will have a PAGA banner hanging so you can find us easily.
other info: Being that we will have a car full of containers, luggage and people, we won't be able to bring a big spread of food, but if you would like to bring some snacks to share or beverages, we won't object. We will be arriving in the Florence area just before the start of the event, so we won't really have time to grab anything ourselves.
