Geocache Description:

Welcome to where you say?  This is not your typical "Welcome to" location.  Watch the kids around the water.

The area from this point east to the Malad river south to 6400 North west to Little Mountain and back to here was once known as Evans.  The Mormons who lived in this area attended the Evans Branch.  The meeting house was located on the corner of 6800 N and Iowa String.  As I understand it, the namesake for this area was a railroad employee who had a reputation for over indulgence in alcohol and a player as far as the ladies are concerned.  As more people came to the area the church decided to include the area in a new Ward.  While discussing what the new ward should be called Mr. Evans reputation was considered.  It was decided that Evans should not be the name of the new ward and a generic numrical name was chosen.  The members gradually adopted the numeric designation to describe where they lived and Evans began to be forgotten.

Evans has not been completely forgotten.  You can still find it on some maps, and the culinary water system was managed by Evans Water Company up until it merged with West Corrine Water Company in the late 1980's.

I was in a local convienence store one day when a gentelmen asked me where I was farming.  I guess it was clear that I was a farmer by the logo and other evedence on my hat.  I guessed that he was in his mid 70's and thought if I used Evans to describe it to him he might know where it was.  A look of confusion quickly overtook his face.  I shot him the biggest smile I could and said it must have been before your time.  He said he was 82 years old spent his whole life in the northern parts of the county and had never known of Evans. So don't be surprised if you tell a local that you were out in Evans today that they have no clue where you are talking about.
