This is a memorable site from my childhood. When we were growing up back in the ‘70s, my mum’s first ‘car’ was a royal blue Morris van, called Matilda! My sister & I used to ride in the back where there was just a wooden bench seat, but no seatbelts of course. It is truly frightening thinking back to compare the dangers in transport then compared to now. Whenever we crossed this humped-back bridge travelling to or from Bakewell, we would egg our mum on to go fast enough for us to fly in the air off the seat as we crowned the bridge. If she went fast enough, we could even crown ourselves on the roof of the van, which was the ultimate thrill. This ‘game’ became known as Yikes; named after the squeals of "Yikes" as we left our seats! You may even be tempted to give it a go yourselves if you visit - but please remember to keep your seatbelts on!
This cache is not hidden in the wall & there is no need to move any stones to find it. If with children, please keep them supervised due to the proximity of the river. It is worth taking a look round for fishermen before searching, as this is a popular spot for anglers.
Congratulations to cats-eyes for FTF!
