The legend of Lannan Flats is perhaps not as fascinating as the legend of the lost gold at Leechtown (http://bcprospectors.com/Leechtown/Christens/Lost/Cave.htm); however, a legend it is.
Lannan Flats was part of a farm owned by the Lannan Family; however just east of here at Ash's Landing was the start of the Government Trail to Leech River Gold site. Legend has it that old Mr Lannan had five daughters and they loved gold! The daughters often went to Ash's Landing to see if they could chat up the miners to find out what they could about the gold. One day one of the miners told, Josie (the youngest daughter) how to get to the cave where the gold was; but swore her to secrecy telling her, he would come back for her come spring. Poor Josie waited and waited but never saw that miner again; nor did she tell the secret of the gold.
