A palavra ARTISTA tem muitos significados.
Pode ser um criador de uma obra, ou que se dedica à representação, ao canto, à interpretação musical, etc.
A palavra também é utilizada como adjetivo. Por exemplo para indicar alguém que é perfeito na sua profissão. Ou num sentido figurado, para falar de alguém engenhoso ou habilidoso. O ARTISTA também pode designar uma pessoa manhosa ou astuta.
O ARTISTA que aqui se apresenta é no entanto aquele que aprendeu uma arte, um ofício. Estamos a falar do artífice do operário. Esses eram os pintores, os carpinteiros, os tanoeiros, os trolhas, de antigamente.
Nesta praça juntavam-se os artistas à espera que alguém viesse procurar a sua mestria. Nesse tempo não havia salário fixo ou férias. Se não tinhas trabalho não ganhavas. Se o trabalho era fora de portas e o tempo não ajudava, não trabalhavas, logo não ganhavas.
Lembremo-nos pois desse tempo de artistas e aprendizes e vamos a mais um smile.

This word is also used as an adjective. For example, to say how someone’s work is done perfectly. Or in a figurative speech, so say someone is crafty. The “artist” can also be someone who is tricky and knows his way around people to get what he wants.
What this “ARTISTA” here represents is the man who learns to do something, an art. We’re talking about those who work at construction, such as painters, carpenters, and the actual construction worker. All known as “artists” many years ago.
In this little square they all gathered and waited for people to hire their “works of art”. At that time there was no monthly salary or vacation like we have nowadays. If you didn’t work, you didn’t get paid. If you worked outdoors and the weather wasn’t good, you didn’t work, and you didn’t get any money.
