Huby is a moderately sized village of 1,000 inhabitants, standing ten miles north of York. At the old Hall, no longer extant, William Wakefield, architect of Duncombe Park and Gilling Castle, lived in the 18th century. The only remains today are part of the original wall, the brewhouse which is still a dwelling, and the fish ponds now refurbished by the present owner.
