Vegravziie Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Stonagal: Confirmed missing. Won't be replaced a third time. As time goes on it's getting trickier to navigate safely under the bridge anyway.

Farewell to my first hide in Alberta. I still don't know what my old landlord was thinking, but I think I settled on "vuh-GRAV-zee-eye" as the most correct pronunciation. Thanks to all who looked for this one!

Geocache Description:

It's understandable that a person unfamiliar with this town might not know the proper spelling of "Vegreville". They might switch the 'r' and 'e' around. They might think the first vowel should be an 'a'. Or maybe they double up on the 'g'. All understandable. But try as I have, I cannot wrap my head around the way my old landlord thought the town's name was spelled. When her last correspondence came in the mail, she had written down our new mailing address as being in the community of "Vegravziie". Seriously.

After the first four correct letters it just goes downhill. And the longer I looked at it the more puzzled I grew. There shouldn't be an 'a' in there. What does a double 'i' even mean? And where oh where did she get the 'z' from? And how does one pronounce that spelling? Even now I haven't decided how to articulate the name of this cache.

Anyway, this cache welcomes westbound Yellowhead (16A) travelers to the community of VEGREVILLE. Nearby is the town's most famous attraction, the world's largest Ukrainian Easter egg (known as a Pysanka). Bring the family and explore this little area. Parking is available nearby. Even more parking is available by the Pysanka, so there's no need to park on the shoulder.

A travel bug awaits the first finder.
