A. M. D. Howard
Civil War Soldier
His initials, A. M. D. are rather unusual, and a search of the available records using those initials joined with his last name resulted in four different service records.
His marker notes that he served in Company H of the 7th Alabama Cavalry. A service record held by the State of Alabama notes that he served as a Private in Company H, as well as in Companies C and D. This record also shows that he filed for a pension in 1894.
The National Park Service maintains records of soldiers who served in the Civil War, and that database notes four persons with this name serving with units from Alabama. The NPS records note that A.M.D. Howard served as a Private in Company A of Hardie’s Battalion of Alabama Cavalry Reserves. This data base also notes A.M.D. Howard as a Private with Company G of the 25th Alabama Infantry Regiment. Another record shows A.M.D Howard as a Private with Company B of the 8th Alabama Cavalry Regiment. The fourth record reflects the same information as the record from the State of Alabama.
The marker here provides little information about this person. There is only one other grave in the cemetery that has the same last name, a female who died many years before the war.
