Private Richard Caswell Partrick enlisted September 1861 in Company A of the 4th Alabama Cavalry, He served the entire war fighting under General Nathan Bedford Forrest. Private Partick was a member of the Pope Walker Rangers. The regiment fought at Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Chickamauga, and Nashville to finally surrender at Gainesville, May 1865.
Richard managed to have a large family even with his 4 years of service in the war. Between his 2 or 3 wives, he fathered 25 children. At least one of his sons, Henry Allen Partrick, also served in the Civil War.
