This is Cache #5 in my new series of caches meant to bring more people to this beautiful biking/hiking trail, the Path of the Flood Trail. This entire trail has great views of an active rail line, so, during the day/evening, you most likely will see several trains! You can read more about the trail here: http://www.transalleghenytrails.com/trails/path-of-the-flood.aspx.
Cache #5 is accessible via either the Fifficktown or Mineral Point (Staple Bend Tunnel National Park) Trailhead. It is about halfway between the two (approximately 1.5 miles from each trailhead). There is a hidden "trail" off of the main trail (see waypoint for this so you don't miss it) that goes to a "secret spot" that has a nice overlook of the trains. The cache is near the beginning of the hidden trail. (Warning: this trail can get overgrown with high knotweed during the summertime.) Walk back another 150 feet or so past the cache towards the tracks for an awesome view of the trains! During the day, this rail line is fairly active, so chances are good if you wait a little bit, you will see a train.
NOTE: 1) This area is open for hunting, so PLEASE WEAR ORANGE DURING HUNTING SEASON. It's not only for your safety, but it's the law. 2) This train viewing area has lots of big rocks with some steep drop-offs (cliffs) overlooking the train tracks. BE VERY CAREFUL near these cliffs, the rocks will be slippery when wet/icy. Cache is a medium screw top container (BYOP).
