Geocache Description:

A small cross on the side of the road marks a memorial to an unknown person(s). This corner is also the start of Collies track that runs steeply up the hill to a low saddle and eventually connects to the Rimutaka Rail Trail.

Please remember this is SH2 and a very busy road. If coming from Wellington the parking location is opposite a blind corner and there is no room to pull over here. DO NOT attempt to access the car parking area by crossing the centre line at this point. Drive up the road a few hundred metres to the U-turn coordinates. Here you can safely pull over to the left of the road and await a suitable break in the traffic from both directions to turn around and go back downhill.

The cache is placed a short distance up the track from the car parking area. The forest here is low montane forest with mahoe, kamahi, and other hardwoods. The cache is placed no more than a few metres from the path (left side going uphill). If anyone knows the story behind the roadside cross please tell us about it in your logs.
