Geocache Description:

The cache is on a green lane from Southerton to Venn Ottery. Its origins are believed to be the route taken to church by the good folks of Southerton. When I moved here some 40 years ago it was still used by the postman in his van!

Parking is as for the Southerton cache at N50.42.555  W03.18.820. Cache placed with kind permission of the landowner. In view of the extensive tree cover you may need to widen your search.

The name SOUTHERTON is derived from ‘South of Town’, the town being Fen (Venn) Ottery about half a mile to the north. The hamlet of some 40 souls is clustered around Southerton House, a large Victorian/Edwardian establishment which included a coach house and stables; a dower house; walled garden; water tower and a squash court. The hydraulic ram which fed the tower, a Japanese garden (now derelict) and a number of other dwellings is still in working order. The hamlet is also home to the Southerton Stompers!

While you are here, why not ‘Southerton Offset GC677R4’  and ‘Southerton GC677QR’.
