Few people know that New Brighton was a popular summer destination for Paul Bunyan. On his way from Maine to Minnesota he would stop here for the night. Evidence for his visit is the two lakes across 35W where he stopped walking and the weight of his shoes made those watery spots. After setting up camp he would eat dinner, feed Babe, and do some laundry...
After bushwhacking down to this cache, pause for a minute and take in the nice view of Tony Schmidt Regional Park across the freeway. A beautiful spot and no doubt the reason Paul and Babe stopped here.
