Las Cruces, New Mexico is a place that snowbirds and winter visitors enjoy, and many soon decide to buy a retirement home and stay. Las Cruces is located in southern New Mexico, on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert, at the foot of the Organ Mountains and along the banks of the Rio Grande.
Las Cruces is 225 miles south of Albuquerque, NM, 275 miles east of Tucson, AZ and 42 miles west of El Paso, Texas. Las Cruces enjoys 350 days of sunshine a year. During the winter, when northern states are digging themselves out from under the snow, Las Cruces basks in daytime temperatures ranging from the upper 50s to lower 60s.
Located in the heart of the chile capital of the world, Las Cruces is home to some of the best and hottest Mexican food around. Many local restaurants feature traditional Mexican food entrees made from famous family recipes.
The Las Cruces area offers a unique mix of habitats with an impressive diversity of bird watching opportunities. Situated at the north end of the Chihuahuan Desert, Las Cruces has the added dimensions of the Rio Grande River, and the nearby Organ Mountains.
A few years back, Las Cruces received nationwide recognition as being the top area in the U.S. to retire (Money Magazine). Since then, it seems the rest of the world slowly discovered what we've already known: Las Cruces is a great place to live.
