The trail leading to the top is accessible from Falcon Rock after purchasing a permit. Please stick to the path, which is easy to follow, to avoid erosion and destruction of vegetation. While hiking you can enjoy the beautiful fynbos, wonderful birds and amazing views. From the 360 degree view on top you can see the Nelson Mandela Metro, Jeffrey's bay and the majestic Groot Winterhoek mountains and even further on very clear days.
The hike to the top and back will take between 1.5 and 2.5 hrs depending on your fitness. Remember to wear sturdy shoes, and take with some water and a windbreaker - it is often much colder on top. Ablutions are available at both Highbrae and Falcon rock. As always in nature, please leave no trace - this ensures the same enjoyable pristine experience for the next person.
Route description:The trail starts on the south side of the mountain, climbing steeply up the mountain through head-high fynbos. About a third of the way up, you come to an open rock platform from where there are great views, so it’s a good spot for a breather. The gradient eases for a short while and then the climb begins in earnest as you make your way up a rough section, to the rock cliffs and round the eastern flank to a shoulder. Once on top (on the shoulder) the path turns sharp left (west) to the summit. Please refrain from accessing the top via a direct route.
