“Today, on behalf of my family, our partner David Thomson, and our entire organization, I am excited beyond words to announce our purchase of the Atlanta Thrashers.”
Mark Chipman
May 31, 2011

Mark Chipman is a Winnipeg, Manitoba businessman best known as the owner of the Winnipeg Jets hockey team. He serves as Chairman of True North Sports and Entertainment, the company that owns the NHL franchise. In 2011 he became a hero to pretty much every Winnipegger when he successfully negotiated the “return” of the Winnipeg Jets. As an enduring expression of gratitude, Jets fans shout “TRUE NORTH!” every time that line is sung during the Canadian national anthem. No doubt many of you Oilers fans have been annoyed to hear the line shouted out by visiting Jets fans at Rexall Place. This expat Winnipegger and former Jets season ticket holder placed this cache in Chipman as a tribute to the Jets’ owner. (To be clear, the village of Chipman, Alberta was not named after him.)
Parking is available off the highway.
