Geocache Description:

This ‘Artwalk’ will take you around the Theatre District part of Milton Keynes, where several public art pieces are found. The cache is not at the published co-ordinates, this is where you will find the first art piece and first clue. The final location is based on finding all the clues and is within a short distance from the last location/clue. Thanks to chas49 for allowing me to use the Artwalks theme ;-)

WARNING: Building work to construct the new hotel is complete but we have lost the first two Waypoints and the artwork is now gone forever. As of Nov 16 the Paparazzi artwork has also been removed (Doh!) Also I noticed recently that the Sound Dome is now gone too! For now I answered these three clues in the text to allow you to complete the puzzle. This may need some reworking in the near future but one good bit of news at least is that there is new artwork in front of the hotel

At the published co-ordinates you can see several art pieces that were installed for Milton Keynes 40th Birthday Celebration and Science Garden (2008). Pauley Landscapes were invited to showcase the Milton Keynes 40th Birthday Celebrations with a Science Garden design and installation within the heart of the City Centre, The Theatre District. Milton Keynes has strong links with Equinox and a scientific theme emerged triumphant. Commissioned by the Theatre District, managed by Savills and owned by Deutsche Bank, the installation includes several pieces of symbolic Artwork. At the centre of these installations is a gnomon that casts a shadow to represent both time and space within the historic and scientific context. The final Garden was completed by a Cube, Triangles, a Spiral, and a Henge and has been a huge success and a proud contribution to the city from the Theatre District management team and owners

A newer piece was added later entitled ATOL, 2008 (A Tree Of Life) which is the first in series of Nature Inspired artworks by local businessman Phillip Pauley. "The metal tree is meant to represent growth and is particularly apt considering the development of Milton Keynes.”

Look at the ‘Triangles’ (or Pyramids?), how many are there? This is A(3). The triangles are made up with a certain number of ‘vertical columns’. This number is B(4).

Now, A+B=C(7)

Next move to N 52° 02.619 W 000° 44.976 where you can see an art piece called Paparazzi by Steven Gregory (1996) which is a series of Bronze pieces spread out over the roofline of the buildings of the Theatre District but concentrated around the inner square where you now stand. Gregory’s anthropomorphic cameras stalk the Theatre district like vultures or crows. Gregory describes them as ‘hunting in a pack, but always looking after number one first, ready to snap at just the right moment to immortalise their chosen victim’.

How many Paparazzi are visible on the roofline either side of the central square you stand in now, (don’t count those on the Sound Dome though). This is D (6).

Now move towards the next location on our walk which is the Sound Dome at N 52° 02.604 W 000° 45.014. As you do so look out for more Paparazzi around the Sound Dome itself.

How many Paparazzi did you count around the Sound Dome roof? This is E (3).

Now, D+E=F (as the Paparazzi art piece is now gone, for the benefit of this multi F = 9)

Although not technically an art piece at the moment it was formerly the home of one piece of work called 5 Minute Oscillations of the Sun by Caroline Devine. Her piece was designed to work with the natural architecture and acoustics of the dome. Later the Theatre District Management installed its own acoustic interpretation of the Sound Dome with more ‘everyday’ noises. You can hear the noises if you stand under the centre of the dome.

Look around you, how many columns hold up the Sound Dome? This is G (8).

Next move to N 52° 02.630 W 000° 45.065 for a quick detour off the art walk. This is a National Millennium Milepost and it identifies a national cycle route which passes through CMK. There are four different types of Millennium Mileposts on the National Cycle Network. Although there are artists from all four countries, the posts are spread throughout the United Kingdom.

Designed by Scottish sculptor Iain McColl this Milepost is called The Cockerel. The influences behind this one are Miro's "The Fork" and Branusci's "The Cock". This design has additional space that has been left to show local directional information.

The cycle route number is on the top and this is 5(H).

Next move to N 52 °02.648 W 000° 45.006. This art piece is called Dangerous Liaisons (1995); Philip Jackson (laser cut images into Steel).

Dangerous Liaisons is based on the mask and inspired by the Maschera Nobile of 17th and 18th century Venice. This costume hides the identity and gender of its wearer, allowing him or her to go about the city unrecognized. This would allow for intrigues, vendettas and love affairs to take place without fear of discovery. Strangely poignant for the Theatre District.

How many ‘human figures’ make up this sculpture. This is J.

Finally finish at N 52°02.683 W 000°44.974

One of MK’s newest pieces of Artwork, David Bachelors’ Chromocochere (2015) is a vertical, 3 meter diameter ring faced in low energy LEDs sited above a Porte Cochere next to MK Gallery at the eastern end of Midsummer Boulevard. At any one time that it is viewed, the ring will be a single intense colour. Over the course of an hour the ring passes through the full colour spectrum, functioning as a kind of colour clock.

Look at the ring (not for an hour though as you have a cache to find!!), rather simply it looks like a number, this is K.

The final location is N 52° KJ.CGF W 000° BB.GHJ which is a short walk from the final location/clue. Cache is small plastic container with cammo. There is a pencil and small swaps/TBs possible. FTF will receive a limited edition Rugby World Cup MK Pin badge! CAUTION: During wetter weather the grass leading to the cache may be a little muddy so Pushchair users and other Cacher's should be cautious! :-)
