E Matunuck State Beach is not the best in the state, but may be the most interesting, since the eastern end borders on a high traffic channel used by the fishing fleet, ferries, recreation boats and the Coast Guard. Good surf and generally not crowded. Good views of Block Island, and arguably the best seafood restaurant in the state is just down the road.
The pavilion is new, and the wind tubine was installed to provide power for the facility. RI is leading the way in wind power, with a major installation off shore, and another turbine at a nearby beach on the other side of the channel.
