MS 77 - Sunny Sandgropers Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

WA_Puzzler: The time has come to archive this series - five years is long enough and with so few finds, and even fewer solves, the recent fires have put the nail in the coffin for the series. At least 80% of the caches were retrieved a couple of days ago and are currently sitting on my back verandah, awaiting retrieval of the logs, and the others have been totally destroyed. Any caches out in place now are throw downs and finds on these will be deleted. Thankyou to all the geocachers who solved the puzzles and then enjoyed the finding of the caches. It really is a beautiful part of the WA bush, and a part that will forever be known as MS Land to many of us!

MS 77

Sunny Sandgropers

Symbols and icons provide a visual representation of an idea or word. They take many forms and are used at many different levels of society. When you look around, symbols and icons are everywhere and are used to familiarise us with signs, products, brands, companies and governments.

The Commonwealth of Australia and all the States and Territories have a range of identifying icons that are used to produce a feeling of identity, pride or national belonging. In Western Australia, we have our state flag as well as our Coat of Arms, along with our various emblems: the animal emblem (the numbat), bird emblem (the black swan), floral emblem (the red kangaroo paw) fossil emblem (the gogo fish) and marine animal emblem (the whale shark) that represent our State.

But one more iconic emblem can't be left out of this listing:
Sunny Sandgroper, our state's mascot.

W3Schools

And if any of you are wondering why us West Australians are often referred to as Sandgropers, a little bit of research has revealed that we have been referred to as Sandgropers from as far back as the 1890's, probably as a reference to the rich mineral wealth (gold) to be found in our great state, drawing people from all over the country and around the world, coming to WA to try and strike it rich during the gold rush era of our history.

Interestingly, the population in Western Australia in 1891 was only 49,782. In the four years to 1895, the population doubled to 100,515, and by 1901 it had nearly doubled again, reaching 184,124. And now, some 125 years down the track, with mining still being one of our state's top money spinners, our population has sky-rocketed to a whopping 2,591,600.

The lure of gold!!

Wouldn't it be awesome to find some of that gold for yourself?

We can't help you with that, but we can help you find out where the cache is located. All you have to do is rearrange the puzzle squares, keeping them in the
3 X 3 grid, and making sure that all adjoining edges have matching icons.

You can then find the cache at S 32° 37.ABC & E 116° 01.DEF.

Good Luck!
