Back in the 1960's and 1970's, Marumsco Plaza was the place to be. There were few other options in Prince William County. The plaza had a Giant Food, People's drugstore (with a sandwich counter and soda bar), a movie theater (how many times did I see Star Wars there), GC Murphey's (who even knew what Levi's were), Peebles Department Store (for more upscale shopping), Steerhaus Restaurant (they had bands at night). The CBers gathered in the parking lot on Friday and Saturday nights and when the carnival came to town the set up there, as well. I would walk all the way out here from Occoquan on the weekends just to hang out. With the development of Potomac Mills Mall in the early 1980's, Marumsco Plaza lost it's appeal. Many of the businesses shut down or moved out. Go there, close your eyes and imagine a parking lot full of life.
