This series od caches has been placed to celebrate each Scout Jamboree held in Australia. I has been hidden to coincide with the 24th Australian Jamboree being held at Cataract Scout Camp during January of 2016. A jamboree is a gathering of Scouts, Youth members of the Scout Association aged between 11 and 15 years of age. They are held every 3 years and run for around 10 nights. Approx 10,000 people attned. For many, it is the highlight of there Scouting Life.

The 16th World Scout Jamboree held  30th  December 1987 to 7th January 1988. the first World Jamboree held in the Southern Hemisphere and the first to change the date from a tradional August. The Jamboree was hosted by Australia at Cataract Scout Park, a specially constructed Scout tent city situated on a 160 hectares bush site near Appin just south of Sydney. 14,434 Scouts from 84 countries attended, with approx 13,000 more in attendance on "Visiting Day"  The theme was "BRINGING THE WORLD TOGETHER"  The opening ceremony of the Jamboree was at midnight and the first official event of Australia Bicentenary.  Highlights included the Challenge Valley obstacle course and the Great Aussie Surf Carnival for which scouts were shuttled in over 50 buses to Thirroul Beach.

The United Kingdom contingent included Betty Clay, daughter of the founder of Scouting and eleven members of the Baden-Powell family, nine of whom were direct descendents of Robert Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell.   In addition to this 18 Ranger Guides attended, the first time members of the Guide Association were allowed to take part in a World Jamboree.

The 9th World Scout Jamboree 1957 which was held at Sutton Park,  Sutton Coldfield,  in the United Kingdom. also known as the "Jubilee Jamboree"  was held for 12 days. The Jamboree marked dual milestones as it was both the 5oth anniversary of the Scouting movement since it inception at Brownsea Island and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Souting's founder Robert Baden-Powell . there were 33,000 participants from 85 countries.  My Mum and Dad (Alan & Alice Strode) and many others from the South Coast and Tablelands and the Sydney areas were fortunate to be able to participate in this amazing Jamboree, In those days sailing around to Capetown- South Africa- to England and the return trip bought them back thru the Meditorainan Sea via the Suez Canal and India. Being away 6 months.

Enjoy this beautiful area.
