Geocache Description:

An entry-level lockpicking cache.  Observe the D-rating... Please leave your bolt cutting and destructive tools at home!  You must pick the lock to access the log book! Climbing required (ladder, etc)!

Parking is available near the cache and plenty of room for trackables.

Bring a pencil!

Not far from the container can a robust, rare species of bird can be observed.  Its species name, Strategis Destructicus, or its proper name, Stratofortress, is known by locals by a totally different name: “BUFF.”  BUFF stands for “Big Ugly Fat Fellow”, but is also known as the reliable B-52 bomber.  In only a few places in the world can Strategis Destructicus be found in its natural habitat.  It was first discovered on 15 April 1952.  Fewer than 100 still remain.

Its characteristics are:

Length: 159 ft 4 in

Wingspan: 185 ft 0 in

Height: 40 ft 8 in

Maximum weight: 488,000 lb

Maximum speed: 650 mph

Maximum flying altitude: 50,000 feet

In the wild, Strategis Destructicus can be readily identified with a tall, vertical tail, and four propulsion boosters under each wing.  It lands and takes off unlike any other bird in the world: nose down on landing and nearly level on takeoff.  It is usually spotted in gray plumage, but camouflage and white or silver variants have been noted since its discovery in 1952.  A total of 744 of the species have been catalogued, with the last born in October 1962.  The species can no longer reproduce, and as the birds age, they may eventually become extinct.  The time to observe and enjoy these lumbering beasts is now.

The cache:

There is sufficient parking for a few cars near the container.  The cache is winter-protected, but in deep snow might be difficult to find.  There's even a nice place to sit, protected from view to pick the lock.  While working to pick the lock, you may be treated to a BUFF sighting as they take off and land from their normal roosting grounds.  Lockpicking tools are necessary to sign the logbook.  Observe the difficulty rating for this cache!  Expect to climb around some tree limbs, and a long reach to access the container.  Do not log the cache unless you have signed the logbook; bogus logs will be deletedPlease do not damage/mangle the container; picking the lock will access the logbook without destructive force. Please secure the container back in the tree to prevent loss.
