This location was chosen to continue our wood series.
The cache is located near the previous site of the Ebenezer Uniting Church.
Beneath this historic tree Elder James Mein conducted the first service for this area.
Worship began at this location as early as 1803, with 15 families, under the leadership of Pastor James Mein.
They congregated beneath the tree which still stands adjacent to the church today.
The church building was built in 1809 and was used both as a school and chapel.
Due to a severe wind storm that went through Ebenezer on the night of the 16th December 2005, the historic tree sustained major damage to the main trunk. The tree today still survives but it is only a shadow of its former glory.
