Ponte Aleardi
E’ l’unico ponte intitolato ad un cittadino veronese, Aleardo Aleardi (1812 – 1878), probabilmente perché la costruzione venne iniziata nel 1879, anno successivo alla morte del poeta. Il primo ponte, abbattuto dall’inondazione del 1882, fu costruito in ferro e così pure il secondo nel 1884 da parte di un’impresa a cui (come per altri ponti) venne concesso diritto di pedaggio per rifarsi della spesa. A causa del deterioramento subito a dalle nuove esigenze sorte per i carichi stradali il Comune di Verona decise nel 1939 la ricostruzione in cemento.
Dopo la costruzione delle due pile i lavori furono sospesi nella primavera del 1941 a causa della guerra. Una delle pile fu fatta saltare la notte del 25 aprile 1945 dai tedeschi. Subito dopo la liberazione, data la sua importanza per il transito venne gettato un ponte militare.
La ricostruzione in cemento armato venne ultimata nel 1950.

Antico Macello
Sul ponte affaccia l’Antico Macello qui trasferito da via Sottoriva dove era sorto nel 1768.
L’Antico Macello (edificato tra il 1601 ed il 1604) in origine era adibito a luogo di espurgo di tutte le merci provenienti dalla Germania e dalle Fiandre. Nel 1624 l’esplosione della vicina polveriera causata da un fulmine provocò l’intera distruzione dell’edificio. Dopo varie vicissitudini il complesso venne progressivamente abbandonato sino al 1803 anno in cui passò in uso all’amministrazione militare del Lombardo Veneto che ne fece una caserma. Nel 1853 il complesso fu acquistato del Comune di Verona che lo ristrutturò adattandolo alla nuova esigenza; il Macello divenne operativo alla fine del 1860. Subì ulteriori modifiche ed ampliamenti a fine ottocento. Venne abbandonato definitivamente nel 1966 e successivamente ristrutturato con nuova destinazione ad uso civile e commerciale.

It’s the only bridge entitled to a citizen of Verona, aleardo aleardi (1812 - 1878), probably because the construction was begun in 1879, the year after the death of the poet.

Old Slaughterhouse
On the bridge overlooking the Old Slaughterhouse here moved away from Sottoriva where was born in 1768.
The Old Slaughterhouse (built between 1601 and 1604) was originally used as a place of clean of all goods from Germany and Flanders. In 1624 the explosion of nearby gunpowder caused by lightning caused the whole destruction of the building. After many vicissitudes, the complex was gradually abandoned until 1803 when it passed in use to the military administration of the Lombardo Veneto that turned it into a barracks. In 1853 the complex was purchased by the City of Verona who renovated adapting it to the new requirements; the slaughterhouse became operational at the end of 1860. It suffered further changes and extensions to the late nineteenth century. It was finally abandoned in 1966 and renovated with new destination to civil and commercial use.
