Day 7 - 2015 Cachemas in STL Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

eravau: I can't easily (cheaply) get a replacement for the missing piece of this field puzzle… so as much as I enjoy this one… after 5+ years I'm going to let this cache go.

Geocache Description:

Day 7 - 2015 Cachemas in STL

In honor of Brandt Teske, “87Preludea20a3,” the TWELVE DAYS OF CACHEMAS ARE BACK!

Here’s how it works: For 12 days beginning December 14th (Day 1), a new cache will be published and every day afterwards until December 25th. If you are able to First to Find, FTF, one of these daily caches, an FTF Cachemas Ornament will be in the container for you to keep. As an added bonus, thanks to Lfrank, the ornament can be converted to a cache container for a future hide. PLEASE, if you get an FTF on one of the 12 days, do not go for another one, let someone else have the fun.

Again, there will be a 13th Bonus Cache which can only be found by using the codes written on the inside of the container lid of each daily cache. Keep these codes and use them to solve the location of the 13th cache which will also publish on the 12th and final day, December 25th. In the process of locating the codes, you will solve the coordinates, believe me, it’s not difficult.

Have fun and remember to thank 87prelude in your log. He brought this great series to St. Louis.

Jingle All The Way

Unless you've been living under a rock your entire life (or under a log… like the final for this cache)… you're intimately familiar with the tune to Jingle Bells. Since it's repeatedly played for the last five weeks of every year… you've probably heard it a million times. To solve this fairly simple musical puzzle… go to the posted coordinates where you will find a simple musical instrument upon which you will play the first three lines from this well-known Christmas carol:

Jingle bells
Jingle bells
Jingle all the way

Begin playing the first Jingle of the song on the instrument's Blue-Green note (third from the end) and pick out the rest of the three lines from there. If you look at the instrument… you will notice that each of the notes has a single-digit number associated with it. Find out which five notes make up the third line – Jingle all the way – and assign them to ABCDE (checksum: 31).

The final for this cache is at:

N 38° 26.(A) (B+1) (B)
W 090° 45.(C + A - E) (D) (B + D)

(Parentheses used to separate each of the digits. Do not multiply the values in parentheses times each other.)

There are no marked trails in the conservation area… but there are some well-worn trails from fishermen and hunters over the years. I have marked coordinates below for the trailhead leading to the posted coordinates. And although you may not be able to see the trail from the parking lot… if you enter the woods at that point and head straight in… you should run right into it.

Although the locations of the waypoints were dry when the cache was placed… there may be times of the year when the area's water does not allow for 100% dry passage to and from the cache locations. Plan accordingly.

NOTE: Catawissa Conservation area is not a 24/7 facility. As of the placement of this cache… it was only open from 4:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Please check the Area Regulations to avoid any legal issues and keep caching alive in Missouri's conservation areas.
