Geocache Description:

Dude, same place it's been since 1979 or so.

You may have been here already to find http://coord.info/GCG4AF Checking historic aerial maps it seems that this entire area was clear of most trees and farmed since at least the 1930s. There were several patches of rectangular shaped, open farmland separated by lines of trees visible, and this car appears to be parked at the northwest corner of one on the trail surrounding the patch since 1979 or so. Most of the images throughout the years aren't too clear, but the distinctive blue green color of this car is noticeable on the 1979 maps which have detailed clarity.  There appears to be at least two other patches farmed to the west of it, but abandoned around the 1950s. This particular patch appears to have evergreen trees planted around 1963 for likely a Christmas tree farm. Some are still standing with succeeding generations thriving.

Now we can only guess why it was left here, but Ralph Nader certainly didn't like these cars, as he was notorious for saying they were unsafe. With the rear engine and flat 6 engine, it was an unusual design but unsafe due to the rear suspension on the early models up to 1963. They added a much needed roll bar by 1965 and eventually made the rear suspension fully independent like the Corvettes which made it handle great, but Ralph Nader's book had just came out about the early models and unfortunately production went from 220,000 to 14,000 by 1968. Let me also mention that the engine mounted above the rear drive wheels gave them great traction in the snow and soft sand, and the name comes from a mixture of Corvette and Bel Air. Although this one is torn up, the chrome bumpers are still in fairly good condition.

If you approach from the electric lines there's plenty of thorns, as it's best to come from the trail to the west. Difficulty is likely a 4 for most people without the hint and 1 or 2 with it. $5 for FTF! Have fun!
