Geocache Description:

The Oak Lake Aquifer has an interesting story board at the posted coordinates.

To complete this find, please answer the following question and send to the cache owner:

Q: How many wells monitor the aquifer?

Oak Lake Aquifer

The Oak Lake Aquifer is an almost totally unconfined sand and gravel deposit that covers 800 square miles. It rests on sandy silt which is underlain by clay and/or till. Beneath this lies shale bedrock. Recharge of the aquifer is mainly from local rainfall and snowmelt and, to a lesser degree, from stream flow in Pipestone and Stony Creeks. Source: Waterstewardship/Manitoba Conservation

Looking west from the storyboard you can see Oak Lake. The Pipestone creek enters Oak Lake on the west side of the lake. The aquifer stretches from the towns of Pipestone to the west, Virden to the north, Souris to the east and Broomhill (north of Melita) to the south.
