The Dayton and Southeastern Railroad was formed in 1871 with the intentions of building a standard gauge railroad from Dayton through Xenia, Washington CH, and Chillicothe to reach the coalfields around Wellston. Unable to gain financing, the railroad was promoted as a narrow-gauge line and construction began in 1876. By 1879, the line had been extended into Chillicothe and reached Wellston in 1880.
Railroads in the late 19th century were subject to many takeovers and bankruptcies and in 1881, the Dayton and Southeastern became part of the Toledo, Delphos, and Burlington. In 1882, the TD&B was running out of money and entered receivership. The lines southeast of Dayton were eventually reorganized as the Dayton and Ironton Railroad and were converted to standard gauge in1887. The Cincinnati, Hamilton, and Dayton (CH&D) absorbed the company in 1891. The Baltimore and Ohio gained control of the CH&D around 1916 or so.This line remained in use until the 1970's, but will hopefully be pounded by rolling wheels again soon when it is developed into a bike path.
I'm making the terrain a little harder on this one just because you will have to scramble down a small, but potentially muddy bank next to #110 and you could even get your feet wet based on the weather. Cache container is a matchstick holder. Park in the soccer park for both of these caches near The Long Drop cache.
