This cache is placed on what used to be an outdoor rv storage lot. In fact, you are just a few feet from where we used to park our boat. The development that is here now came to be via a very interesting chain of events. A few years back the Grand Rapids township planning commision voted down a proposal for the new YMCA to relocated at the corner of Leonard and Crahen at the site of an old golf course. This occurred after a heated campaign against the facility from homeowners in the area Link, Link Previous to this turn of events, the stock market crash of 2008 put a permanent hold on a planned condominium development (Turnburrry PUD)originally approved in 2005, on the corner of Kraft and Burton (Where the baseball fields currently are) Link, Link. The YMCA was able to purchase this land and an adjacent parcel which had been used for outdoor rv storage. So, as you can see, these two isolated events paved the way for the lovely YMCA facility you see before you. The project was green lighted in July of 2014 Link and opened December 7, 2015.
