Did you know that there are over 4,800 different kinds of frogs? They are about 85% of all amphibian species and have hopped about this Earth for 200 million years, since the era of dinosaurs! Frogs come in every imaginable size, from just a few centimeters to over a foot long. Some frogs live in water and others dwell on land. Some frogs can jump twenty times their own height, and some jungle frogs can glide from tree to tree. All of that racket around the pond in the evening is because male frogs croak at night to attract females. In many species the male tends the tadpoles until they grow their legs and become little froglets. Most frogs are harmless but some are deadly poisonous, and warn predators of their danger with their bright colors. This is necessary as many frogs, as it turns out, are delicious. And, no, handling a frog (or a toad, which are also frogs) will not give you warts.
Thanks to a generous gift from a frog-loving friend there is plenty of frog swag waiting to be traded! Please bring frog-related items to trade. But no real frogs, please!
