While geocaching at Hoffler Creek, a park ranger gave us a plastic box that had been left on a golf cart belonging to Hoffler Creek. He believed it to be a geocache, but it turned out to be a container holding someone’s swag. Since he wasn’t sure what to do with it, he gave it to us and our family decided to place a new cache in the park. Whoever left their swag in a small clear container with a red top, please know that it is being used for its purpose!
Container is a sandwich-sized plastic (hopefully waterproof!) plastic container clearly marked as a cache. Contains a log book, pen, and swag for the FTF. Trail is very kid-friendly. It is only a short "hike" on a clearly marked, flat trail that is less than .5 miles from the parking area. Please note the preserve is only open from 10-4 Tuesday-Sunday and the gates are locked by the rangers after 4. Not a bad idea to go in the office and inform a ranger you are geocaching if you arrive after 3 so you don't get locked in! Rangers are all very nice, friendly, and helpful. There are trail maps available in the office, and this cache is placed right off the Bluebird Trail, which leads to a beautiful water view. Hoffler Creek does have canoes/kayaks for rent as well as a launch area for your own kayaks for a small fee, should you be spending the day there. Porta-potties are in the parking lot and there is a tiny gift shop in the office, where they sell patches perfect for a boy or girl scout. Happy hunting!
