When I was in middle school, Impett park was among the highlights of my summers. My friends and I would go on summer evenings and play basketball. I would also hang out here with my other friends from time to time, and even though a good number of people didn't play basketball, they knew people who did, so the court always drew a good crowd. The basketball court had some issues on and off. It would attract underage smokers, college age people who had extremely foul language, and some reported illegal activity once in awhile. The city had a habit of leaving the court lit up until the park closed, so kids and adults who play basketball after dark. This drew the ire of the neighbors and eventually someone used a truck to bend both hoops to the ground. The city has long since removed the damaged hoops, but they never replaced them and instead added another tennis court. It's a shame that people feel the need to ruin something meant for good and to keep kids away from the streets be destroyed because both parties ruin it for everyone. So now the basketball court is a ghost of the past and a monument to all the broken hoop dreams left in its wake. Hopefully they will bring them back one day.
