I put this cache out in honor of something I learned while getting my Webelos "Into the Woods" badge. Our instructor showed us examples of trees that were wounded. Wounds can occur in a variety of ways ... storm damage, animals, bugs, disease, or humans. When a tree gets a wound, such as a broken limb or a large cut in the bark, it cannot heal itself. Instead, a tree will grow new bark around the wounded area to protect itself from further damage. It's kind of like sealing itself up and putting on a permanent bandage. The phrase we were taught was that "trees seal, not heal". At this cache location, you will find a tree with a large cut up through its trunk. It has found a way to seal itself, but it will never actually heal.

The GPS reception in this wooded valley is terrible. It jumps around alot. But the tree you are looking for is pictured in the description. If you walk up the usually dry creek bed from the playground, the spot you are looking for is up the hill a little bit on your right. It is above the point where the creek bed takes a turn to the right and a large tree is sticking out over what is occassionally some water. The wounded portion of the tree can't be seen from the creek bed. The wound is facing mostly uphill.
