Geocache Description:

Buried Rivers of Gold Victorian Heritage Site - #33 in the series

The mine was named Earl of Beaconsfield in honour of Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield, who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom at the time.

Ballarat Star (Vic. : 1865 - 1924), Thursday 1 January 1891, page 4

CRESWICK KINGSTON, AND SMEATON.

(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT)

Operations at the Earl of Beaconsfield have been attended with good results. Unfortunately, shifts are lost rather frequently through bad air, a trouble which also presents itself at neighboring mines. A gratifying feature with the Beaconsfield is the increase of the dividends for the year to £9300, as compared with £4206 during the previous 12 months.
