Hej DavyNic!

Geocache Description:

Even the smallest of places deserve their very own cache!

This is another cache in the series at smaller villages and settlements around Piteå.

When silver was found at the Nasa mountain in 1634, supplies were first transported by horse from Lillpite to Gråträsk, then by reindeer to the mountains.

It's believed that there used to be a shelter(Jordkupa) here which was used as a place to rest along the path between the coast and the Nasa mountain. The name Keupan evolved from kupa.

According to records (jordaboken) from 1776, a new house where built in 1730, which began to pay taxes in 1766. The first known occupant of this house was Olof Eliasson Rhen(b 1726), originally from Hamnen in Öjebyn.

The first records of a school in Keupan is from 1924-1925, but it's uncertain if there was a school here prior to that. The first teacher was Vian Baudin, who also thought in Backträsk from 1924-27. September 1926 when she suddenly died.

A handful of teachers thought at the school up till 1938. During the years 1933-1942 there was also held school at nearby Åkersel. (Source: Byarna och torpen övanför Lillpite by Rune Bergman)
