A nice family-friendly cache near the end of the road at the western end of the Criagnish Peninsular. There is a good sized parking area at the road end.
The name of the cache comes from one of the original uses of the ruined old pier. It may be hard to believe but there is good local evidence in several guide books testifying to the fact that Cattle used to be swum across from Jura to this pier on their way to market in Falkirk and elsewhere. I wonder how many were lost along the way? At the start of the pier is an auld wee hoose and goodness knows what this was used for. Maybe farmers sheltering from the storm whilst the coos were being escorted along the pier. After finding this cache you may wish to continue a walk towards the end of the peninsular to another cache by theclarkes (Singing Mermaids).
