There are two ways to access the geocache. 1) The bridge is now open to Moonville. If you park in the new lot by the bridge, you can take the bridge across. About 3/4 of the way to the bridge, you will see a gravel path to the left. If you take this, you will be heading in the right direction. 2) Suggested seasonally, but can be overgrown as forestry does not maintain trails. The Old Forestry Trail. There is a gravel pull off before the iron bridge. As you walk along the rugged trail, make sure you stay on the path. The trail, other either side, is covered in a thick layer of poison ivy. (If you get any on you. Just quickly wash with warm soap and water at home) This is the ghost town of Moonville and on the old Ferguson property where the Moonville Tunnel was placed. At its peak, the largest number of residents recorded living in the area was about 2 families during the mid to late 1800’s. You can see old foundation stones from a building here and if you look out over the area, you can see where other buildings once stood. Be careful! There is also an old well nearby.
Just up the trail is the Moonville Tunnel. It is said the ghost of an engineer has haunted the train tracks here since the 1890s. He was seen as a large white figure with glowing red eyes.
This is Division of Forestry property. Geocaches may not be accessed between the hours of 11 pm to 6 am. MOSQUITOS ARE REALLY BAD HERE! BRING BUG SPRAY!
