Geocache Description:

Magruder was a small unincorporated town settled mostly by African-American freedmen after the American Civil War. It once had its own church, post office, cemetery, lodge, homes and even a railroad station. To the northwest of Magruder was the small town of Bigler's Mill. During the Civil War, a field hospital occupied that area, which had previously been known as Rippon Hall

However, after land was acquired for the development of the US military reservation known as Camp Peary, all the residents and businesses were displaced. Magruder & Bigler's Mill are considered extinct and are two of the lost towns of Virginia.

The Waller Mill Park Bike Trail is a two mile multiuse asphalt path connecting Rochambeau Drive and Mooretown Road. Parking/entrance fee is $2.00. Additional park information is available in the "Related Web Page" link. A big thank you to the City of Williamsburg for allowing us to geocache along this wonderfully maintained trail.
