Remnants of the small town of Magruder remain preserved on the Camp Peary installation. York River Presbyterian, the town's white church, and its cemetery, have been maintained for more than 70 years. Yet, there is another cemetery located on the property which was for black residents. Old Orchard Cemetery is located less than 1/2 mile from York River Presbyterian but had not been well maintained.
A relative of one of the individuals interned at Old Orchard recently helped get the wheels in motion for seeing that the site was properly maintaining. Eventually the assistance of a local Congressman was sought and helped expedite the process. Upon a recent visit to Old Orchard, it was noted that, "the grass was trimmed and free of debris, and the split-rail fence surrounding the cemetery, built in 2012, was in solid shape. With hope, continual progress will be made towards the perpetual care of Old Orchard Cemetery.
The Waller Mill Park Bike Trail is a two mile multiuse asphalt path connecting Rochambeau Drive and Mooretown Road. Parking/entrance fee is $2.00.
