Il Conventaccio
Il monastero di San Quirico, conosciuto localmente con l'appellativo di « Conventaccio » fu fondato da monaci benedettini nei pressi del torrente che oggi prende il suo nome.Un sistema di viabilità interna e un breve tratto di mare collegavano San Quirico al castello medievale di Piombino e al monastero benedettino di San Giustiniano di Falesia, situati dalla parte opposta del promontorio.
La prima menzione di un edificio di culto in questa zona risale al 923 anno in cui si fa riferimento ad una chiesa e gia dalla seconda metà dell'XI secolo il monastero di S. Quirico comprendeva anche il chiostro. In un documento del 1075 si attesta per la prima volta il monastero in quanto tale. In altri documenti antichi si fa menzione di donazioni fondiare all'ente monastico da parte di nobili famiglie locali quali Della Gherardesca e gli Aldobrandeschi.

Il Conventaccio
The monastery of San Quirico, known by locals as « il Conventaccio » ( the old and decrepit monastery ) was founded by Benedictine monks next to the stream which today bears the same name. An internal road system and a short coastal road, linked San Quirico to the medieval castle of Piombino and to the Benedictive monastery of San Giustiniano di Falesia, both situated on the opposite side of the promontory.
The first mention of a religious building in this area dates back to 923 with the presence of a church in the area, and the San Quirico monastery comprised also a cloister in the second half of the 11th century. The first reference to the monastery itself dates to 1075. There is further information relating to donations of land made to the monastic institution by two local aristocratic families, the Della Gherardesca and Aldobrandeschi.
