Geocache Description:

Starcross Stroll

A simple multi cache that will take you along the main street of the village of Starcross, starting from the given coordinates which are for the railway station.

You will need to have a wander around and find numerical values for the questions / statements below.

All the necessary information can be found from pavement level and is accessible at all times. However, the location of the physical cache is not lit, so please take care if attempting this cache in the dark. You are looking for a small screwtop pot containing a paper log.

You will need to walk both north and south from the station to get all of the information, but it might be best if you do those south of the station first then head north (hint hint!)

Near to the station:

  • The property opposite the station entrance is called ‘The ****** House’, where the missing word is a colour. How many letters are there in the missing word? (It’s not the same as the number of stars I’ve used…!).
    Number of letters = A.

  • Next to the station there is a fish and chip shop. How many steps are there up to it from pavement level?
    Number of steps = B.

  • A national cycle route with a numerical designation runs through Starcross and there are many small signs showing its route. Cycle route number = C.

South of the station:

  • The village war memorial is situation just south of the station. How many sides does its base have?
    Number of sides = D.

  • Further south, The Starcross Fishing and Sailing Club is based in the former pumping house for Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s ‘Atmospheric Railway’. A plaque on the building states it was built over a two year period in the 19th Century. The decade is the 18E0s.

North of the station:

  • Along the footpath / cycle path, thee are a number of benches facing towards the railway line and the sea. One is a memorial to someone called Marcel Cuypers. He was born in 19F8 and died in 200G.

  • In the village car park, there is a wooden sign referring to the ‘****** Counties Way’. This number = H.

  • The same sign reveals how far it is to Taunton. Distance = JK miles.

The physical cache can be found at:
N 50° (C + F) (H + J) . B (D / H) F
W 003° C (A + E) . G G (K / C)
