Geocache Description:

Enjoy the stroll along the Capitola Esplanade, watch the surfers and the wildlife, enjoy Wednesday concerts during the summer.

The picturesque and colorful town of Capitola lies just east of Santa Cruz, where the Soquel Creek meets the Monterey Bay. There are many seaside activities such as surfing, stand up paddle, boogie boarding, fishing and sun bathing. It boosts an eclectic assortment of shops, a few funky bars and several outstanding restaurants. The brightly painted Venetian hotel and condos sit right on the beach, at the end of the wharf area. The iconic Capitola Wharf dates back to the 1850's, where is was an outlet for the produce and lumber produced in the nearby Santa Cruz mountains and Salinas valley.  In 1869 Frederick Hihn decided to develop Capitola into a seaside resort and it was known as Camp Capitola. Capitola is known as the oldest beach resort on the West Coast. It also hosts the annual Begonia Festival on Labor Day weekend as well as the upscale Art and Wine Festival every September.
