Geocache Description:

CACHE: Watch for hole on way to cache. This cache is located near the old school. It's probably not winter friendly, although some of you never let a little snow get in the way (I don't). Night caching might not be out of the question but please use a light. Ample parking options. As always, with caching safety first!

HISTORY: Another cache in the one room school (ORS) and ghost town (GT) series for Lapeer County. Clarks Corners was a settlement located in section 15 of Imlay Township, at the intersection of Old M-21 (Imlay City Road) and Brown City Roads. In 1863, the settlement of Imlay was located at Newark and Corneil Roads. Those were the only two "towns" in the township for several more years. To get from Almont to Clarks Corners at this time they'd travel up what is now Bowman Road, turn westward down Newark and northward on Corneil, where Old M-21 ended for many more years, mostly due to the muckland. Present day Imlay City hadn't yet seen a plow or an ax in 1863. Doran Road was also a main road in those days. Clarks Corners had a post office, the mill of Rood and Moshier, a grocer, a blacksmith and by the early 1870's a school, probably the second one built in the township. The school is all that remains besides a few original farm homes, with the school last seeing students in the early 1950's. The school eventually had indoor plumbing, two restrooms, one each for the girls and the boys. The site of the grocer and post office is where today's party store sits, although the post office was located at a residence for a few years, mail was discontinued at Clarks Corners before 1900. The work shop on the northeast corner of Old M-21 is where one of the old mills sat, the others were located near the intersection of Old M-21 and Doran. Nothing is known about the person called Clark, for which Clarks Corners was named. Plat maps don't show a landowner for a Clark, except for a tiny parcel in 1874, the only map Clarks Corners appears.

Congrats to *S&M* for [FTF] and Woodtrain for [STF]
