Geocache Description:

I was out looking for places to hide a cache, and look what I found!! I never knew a cemetery was here in Markham, Texas!!

When I visited, the gate was tied shut with a rope. Hopefully, when you come to visit, it will also be accessable. I untied the rope to open the gate and was able to drive right in. There is a circle drive which will take you through the main parts of the cemetery, but if you really want to experience the history here, get out and walk around.

The cache is stashed away in a corner of the cemetery. Thanks for coming. Pictures are welcome! I've already added a few to start things off. Safe travels and Cache on.

I looked up information about this cemetery, and found no history about it, only a list of all the interments. There were a total of 262 interments at the time of the record. As you walk out to the cache, you will notice several graves and tombstones of interest. One that caught my eye was a memorial to Vella Harrison-Morgan. On the front side was a list of several names with birth and death dates. On the back it said Big Mama's Grandchildren, and listed all her grandchildren as of June 2000. Big Mama died Aug. 20, 1963. Her grave is nearby. Such love to this lady, even years after her death.

There was also a heart with the name Nannie on a tombstone nearby. Then as you walk over to the other side of the cemetery, there's an angel celebrating the life of a football player, and the death of the very same young man, 21 years old. Someone looked up to this young man as a king, and a crown was proudly displayed on the angel's head. Next to the tombstone was a baseball cap, probably the one this man wore or liked the most.

You have another tombstone shaped like a football, and why? Here lies a DIE HARD COWBOY FAN written under his name. This man was 65 when he passed.

A couple unique head stones can also be found. Keep looking. One is an unusual shape. And one that I found of interest looked to be hand carved and homemade in cement. At one point in time, someone also painted her name and such with blue paint. I thought the name was a nickname, but it was her real name. Lottie Bowlegs born March 30, 1921 and died August 06, 1983. Her birth and death dates seem to have fallen into the ground over time, as you can only see the March birth date.

Other graves marked service from Vietnam and Korean vets, which was refreshing to see that the men were honored for their service. I was just a bit saddened that there is no history here to be found when I looked on the internet, so while you are out here, please take the time to look around. Also, please be respectful of the area.
