Geocache Description:

A simple premise: Come celebrate the 2016 Leap Year Day in the most ludicrous manner possible.

It's Monday.

So?

It's very early.

And?

I have work later.

Whats your point?

I'll be wrecked all day.

Still not seeing a problem here?

29th February 2016

Leap Year Day

05:00am

Pretend this was taken at night.

The smart amongst you will realise that Leap Days only come around once every four years. Geocaching has been around for the 2004, 2008 and 2012 versions. With the hobby having exploded since then, I predict that the 29th February 2016 will be the biggest day of Geocaching ever. Meet & Greets will take place in every major city worldwide, and innumerable restaurant/cafe meetups will take place. Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with those of course, indeed there may just be one in Dublin this evening too (but of course I can't cross-advertise events!).

However I wanted to do something a little different, something crazier, to remember the day.

So we will have a Meet & Greet of sorts on Sandymount Strand near the tide-line from 5:00 - 5:30am on the morning of February 29th. This is something which I'm sure none of you have done before in the dead of night. So bring wellies! High tide is set for 3:15am, so we'll catch it on its way out.

Some form of food and drink will be provided if anyone feels like it at this stupid hour of the morning.

For those heading to work later on there will be absolutely no traffic to worry about on the way to/from this event... its far too early. You'll have time to attend, get home for a nap and get into work on time. Groggy, but alive. With a story to tell!! For anyone coming from afar, you'll be out of Dublin well before rush hour.

(By the way, I took the day off work, so I can go back to bed after)

Note 1: Wrap up well with plenty of extra layers (more than you planned) and prepare for rain. My events don't tend to co-operate weather wise. Please bear in mind that wind-chill, cold and wet is a merciless combination and hypothermia is an outside possibilty if you're not prepared. I would also recommend flashlights, and tripods for cameras!

Note 2: Winter Morning Insanity events are at the mercy of ice and I will cancel this event should there be a big freeze and I deem driving to the event location dangerous. Plenty of gritting will take place, but probably not early enough for us. Obviously there'll be 101 announcements near to the time should this be necessary.

Note 3: The carpark is opposite houses so I would appreciate if people would not be noisy and avoid shining torches/car-headlights in their direction. Thanks.
