Mossy Stump

Along this stretch of the Rockdale River Trail, the landscape is constantly shifting, shaped by water, weather, and time.

The name “Mossy Stump” reflects an earlier version of this cache, once tied closely to its natural surroundings. As the environment changed, so did the cache, moving and adapting along with it.

Like much of the South River corridor, nothing here stays exactly the same for long.

Lorraine Park and the South River

Nearby Lorraine Park serves as a popular access point to this section of the trail, offering a starting place for hikers, bikers, and those simply looking to spend time outdoors.

The South River flows alongside the trail, winding its way through the landscape. At times, the river is calm and quiet. At others, especially after heavy rains, it can rise quickly and reshape the surrounding area.

Flooding has played a role in shaping this corridor over the years, leaving behind subtle changes in the terrain and reminding visitors of the river’s strength.

Ongoing efforts continue to improve the health of the river, helping restore water quality and create better access for those looking to explore and appreciate this evolving environment.

This area serves as a starting point for many journeys along the trail, where each visit can feel a little different depending on the season, the weather, and the ever-changing flow of the river.

South River Stroll

This geocache is part of the South River Stroll (SRS) series within the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.

This stretch of trail follows the South River corridor, where each stop offers a different perspective on the landscape. Some highlight quiet moments along the water, while others reflect the changes shaped by time, weather, and the river itself.

As you continue along the South River Stroll, you may begin to notice how no two locations feel exactly the same, even though they share the same path.
