Congratulations to Ballynoes for being FTF.

I have set out a series of 15 caches in and around Taymount Woods. There are two main access routes into this series. The most commonly used one is at the entrance off Kinclaven Road at GZ for GC68VTJ, but there is another way in off the B9099 which is signposted as a footpath to Taymount Woods and takes you across a railway crossing. There is very limited parking at this end, though you can get at least one car at GZ here. If your plan is to cycle around this series, I would certainly recommend starting from this end.

This series is a nice easy one for walking and/or cycling. The route is very adult, child and dog friendly once you get across the railway tracks. Most of the route is reasonably buggy friendly, but there are a couple of bits which could be difficult and there is one bit where a fallen tree needs to be negotiated. Apart from a short bit of soggy path to TWS - #07 (GC68VRM,) I would say decent walking shoes should suffice, though some of the drainage ditches might need a wee jump to get to the cache. However, I have tried to keep them all user friendly and if I can get to them I think you probably can too, ‘coz I aint the most agile or fittest of people!

My daughter and I started at this end with the twa dugs, but we cheated a little by parking her car at the other end (GC68VTJ) and bringing my car up to this end which made it a very easy walk for us (I’d been having a few problems with my back during the weeks just prior to placing this lot.)

Anyhooo, when we started out, there was some railway engineering work going on at the crossing and the workers had two vehicles parked off the side of the access road at the gates, which is where I would probably have parked had there been room. There are two gates for pedestrians to cross the railway lines but I must stress the use of extreme caution when crossing the tracks, especially with children and/or dogs.

Normally I would try to add a little interesting bit of blah de blah to entice cachers to come and visit my series, but to be honest I’ve not really had much time to research any, though I did find some intriguing names like Kingsmyre (did he get stuck in the mud?) Priest’s Corner (who was he hiding from?) and Charleston Farm (barn dancing?) but for the moment I’ll leave it at that as I ponder Laguna (also shown on map nearby!)
