Geocache Description:

I have taken the Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis Trail to make it the Warriors and Brothers in Arms Trail.  I hope to provide a little education,  fun, challenge, and just maybe an appreciation for the generations of Americans who put their lives on the line so that we may enjoy our freedoms – to include Geocaching. These vignettes are not comprehensive histories – all factual errors are mine. If you find an error, contact me so that I can fix it.

On December 22, 1961, Tennessee native, Army Specialist 4, James Thomas Davis, (Tom Davis) was traveling the Vietnam countryside under orders of President Kennedy, intercepting radio transmissions of the Vietcong to help support South Vietnam against Communist insurgency.  About 10 miles west of Saigon, his unit was attacked.  Urging his team to “run for it” and drawing enemy fire to himself, Davis was hit by a bullet, killing him instantly but sparing the life of his driver and keeping his equipment from falling into enemy hands. President Lyndon B. Johnson would later declare Specialist Davis "the first American to fall in defense of our freedom in Vietnam."
