She was born in Portsmouth, VA.
She attended Woodrow Wilson High School.
Virginia was diagnosed in her early teens with severe rheumatoid arthritis.
She spent most of her life on crutches or in a wheelchair.
After her father died in 1957, Virginia helped support her family through her extremely successful career as a commercial artist, illustrator and portrait painter.
In the 1970’s she began to secretly write stories.
Between 1972 and 1979, she wrote nine novels and twenty short stories.
In 1979, “Flowers in the Attic” was her first published novel.
It topped the best-seller list with weeks of its release.
Seven books were written completely by V.C. Andrews before her death.
She died of breast cancer in Virginia Beach at the age of 63.
She left outlines for numerous books to which the family hired a
ghostwriter to complete them. He is horror novelist Andrew Niederman.
